How do I stack Rock?
There are many different styles to building ponds sloped sides, stepped sides, or vertical sides. Is it going to be a koi pond, water garden, or a pondless water feature? Whatever you decide one questions we are always asked is “How do I Stack the Rock?”.
Stacking rock in a pond believe it or not is an art form and takes some significant talent and a creative eye. If the builder does not know how to stack rock there could be safety issues later down the road such as a wall falling over and into the pond. When we stack rock we use special care to make sure each rock locks the next rock into place.
Large boulders as your foundation are always a good idea. This will give your next row or course of rock something sound to sit on. The larger rock will have less of a change of moving as the pond settles.
You always want to take adding each additional rock with care and respect. You want to make sure each rock is secure and will not shift or slip in the future possibly causing the entire “wall” to collapse. A little care, respect and creativeness will allow you to build a water feature that will last many many years.
