Will Fish Eat Pond Foam?
I hope not! I doubt any fish will eat pond foam that may come loose and if a fish were to suck up the foam it would most likely spit it right back out. Fish, especially koi are designed to recognize what is good for them and what is potentially harmful. Let’s not forget fish even our loved koi and goldfish are still “wild” animals and if released into a natural pond would survive on their own. Although pond foam is safe and non toxic I suggest any floating or loose pond foam be removed to prevent any potential issues. To this day I have yet to so a fish eat pond foam.
Koi are as we know are always hungry, or at least they would like us to think. Assuring the inhabitants of the pond have a well-balanced diet will help keep them from considering eating any foam or any other potentially harmful item. In their natural habitat they survive by eating bugs, worms, algae and plant materials. They are well adapted to knowing what and what not to eat. Watching koi eat is therapeutic, try it.
